What families from Bacliff to Clear Lake should verify before hiring in-home care
A home-based agency can still be a real operator. The meet and greet is where you check the register.

Southeast Houston in-home care is a mobile trade. Plenty of good operators have no lobby, no waiting room, and no street you are supposed to visit. J N J Home Healthcare is one of them: Community Impact reported in April 2026 that the company has no brick-and-mortar location and serves Webster, Friendswood, Pearland, League City, Kemah, Seabrook, and the rest of the southeast. That is normal for this work. It is also why a family in Bacliff or Clear Lake has to check a different set of facts than they would check for a clinic.
Ask who leads the care, and how long they have done the work
Janet Garner is a CNA. She has more than thirty years of hands-on caregiving. She opened J N J in April 2025. Those are three separate facts, and you should keep them separate when you talk to any agency. A new LLC can still be run by someone who has bathed, transferred, and sat overnight with people for decades. A ten-year logo can still send a different aide every visit. Ask for the name of the person who will walk into the house, their training, and who you call at 2 a.m. when the plan breaks.
Community Impact quoted Garner on a detail most websites bury: the team offers four, six, eight, ten, and twelve hour blocks, plus twenty-four hour care when it is needed. Write that down and take it to every other conversation you have. If an office can only sell you a one-size shift, you will pay for hours you do not need or go uncovered at dusk.
Walk the visit, not the sales pitch
A free meet and greet inside the actual house beats a phone quote. Have the person stand at the front door, then walk the path the caregiver will walk: the chair, the bathroom, the kitchen, the spare room if someone will stay overnight. Point at the grab rail you do not have yet. Point at the step. Point at the stove. You are hiring someone to work in those rooms, not to admire a brochure.
- Who arrives on day one, and who arrives on day twelve if that person is out.
- How families get a note after the visit: eaten, refused, mood, any fall risk.
- Whether the work is private-pay with no contract, and what that means if you need to change days.
- Whether they take agency fees out of the caregiver's rate or yours, in plain numbers.
- What they will not do: injections, wound care, skilled nursing, replacing a hospice team.
- How they cover Galveston County, Harris County, and Brazoria County drive time on a bad I-45 day.
Read the public record you can actually verify
As of the September 2026 gather, Google listed J N J at 5.0 stars across eight reviews. The Places feed did not return the review text, so do not let anyone read you anonymous website testimonials as if they were those eight Google reviews. Click the Maps listing yourself. Count the reviews. Read whatever Google shows you that week. A local news feature is a second check: the Community Impact piece names the company and quotes the CEO. That is a higher bar than a Facebook graphic.
Bonded and insured is a claim J N J makes on its own promotional pieces. Ask to see the certificate, the same way you would for any person with keys to a house in San Leon or Friendswood. Do not invent a license number in your own notes if they cannot show one. Write what you saw.
Match the service list to the house, not the keyword
In-home care, senior care, personal care, companion care, respite, dementia support, live-in hours, and non-medical hospice support are different jobs that often live in the same week. A parent in Pasadena may need companion hours on Tuesday and a shower plus laundry on Friday. A family using a hospice team in Texas City may still need someone for comfort checks, light housekeeping, and a night so the spouse can sleep. If the operator cannot say which of those they do, and which they will not touch, keep looking.
Hours are listed as open 24/7 on the public listing. That is an availability claim, not a promise that a live-in caregiver is sitting in a car on your street. Ask how after-hours calls work, and how long it takes to staff a new overnight in League City versus Channelview. Distance on the Gulf Coast is not theoretical when the causeway is slow.
Leave with a one-page register of your own
After the meet and greet, you should have names, a sample week of hours, a written list of tasks, the cell number you will actually dial, and a clear sentence about medical limits. J N J publishes (281) 678-9847 and jnjhomehealthcare@outlook.com. Use one channel and keep the thread. If a second office number shows up on an old card, ignore it until the operator tells you it is current. Stale numbers are common in this market.
You are not hiring a building. You are hiring a person who will stand in a Bacliff kitchen and keep a parent company, clean, and in the chair they already know. Check the credential, the press, the hour blocks, and the walk-through. Then decide. The register is the point. Everything else is decoration.
